“Portrait of an Artist” with Indira Mahajan

  • Reservoir 36 West 37th Street New York, NY, 10018 United States (map)

Soprano Indira Mahajan performs intoxicating music about summer by George Gershwin and Valerie Capers.  Post-concert interview to follow. Soprano Indira Mahajan will share an intimate pairing of two pieces of music that call to mind that familiar phrase about something old and new, borrowed and blue.  For Mahajan, George Gershwin’s sultry and bluesy Summertime is a favorite that has lived with her since she was a young woman.  It’s a song that she knows as well as she knows the terrain of her own skin. Valerie Capers’ Summer, is a newer work but also speaks to the headiness of summer.  It is an irresistible musical set and after the performance we will hear from her about her life in music, how time and experience shapes interpretation. Each return to a familiar piece feels like greeting an old friend while discovering yet another new facet of oneself.  Come join us for an evening of music, compelling introspection and conversation.  Tickets $25.
